How do I Apply for a New License or Examination

There are two (2) options for licensure:

Apply for New License: This option will take 7-14 business days upon receipt of all required information. After passing the examination you will receive your license at the test site center.

Steps to apply for License:

  • 1. Go to web site www.MyFloridaCFO.com/agents;
  • 2. Click on MyProfile;
  • 3. Log in to MyProfile;
  • 4. Select initial application for licensure;
  • 5. Fill in or answer all demographic, background and license specific questions;
  • 6. Select application type/class and pay appropriate fees. You will pay the license application fee ($50), License id fee ($5), and exam fee ($56), if applicable.
  • 7. Fingerprints – You can select electronic fingerprinting on the above web site for proper procedures The application process is NOT complete until you pay and submit appropriate fees.

Option to Apply for Exam Only: This option will allow you to schedule an exam date after three (3) business days. Upon passing the exam you WILL NOT receive your license at the test center. Seventy-two hours after passing the exam, you must apply for the agent or adjusters license (see instructions above).

Steps to apply for Exam Only:

  • 1. Go to web site www.MyFloridaCFO.com/agents
  • 2. Click on MyProfile;
  • 3. Log in to MyProfile;
  • 4. Select Exam Only application for agent or adjuster;
  • 5. Fill in or answer all demographic, background and license specific questions.
  • 6. Select Exam Only type/class and pay appropriate fees.

You will only pay the exam fee using this option. This process is NOT complete until you pay and submit appropriate fees. (You can verify exam approval by selecting "open authorizations" and entering your social security number on the web site at http://www.fldfs.com/agents/.) Upon passing the exam, you must wait 72 hours before you can apply for the new agent or adjuster license. After completing the new application, the process will take approximately 7-14 business days upon receipt of all necessary information. Your license id will be mailed to your mailing address on file. (Applicants with fingerprint background deficiencies will experience a processing delay of approximately 2-4 weeks.)

Licensing Requirements for the State of Florida:(2-14)

Complete an online application for License and submit appropriate fees.

  • Be a natural person at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a bona fide resident of the state of Florida.
  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.
  • Not be an employee of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or state service office, as referred to in Section 626.833, Florida Statutes.
  • Be fingerprinted by the County School Board, via livescan process. (Link directly to locations and additional information)
  • If licensed in another state within three years, provide a Letter of Clearance.

State Examination Qualifications (Must be completed within four years of application date):

  • Successfully completed a 40-hour approved insurance course for life including variable annuity. (Dice Link);or
  • Successfully completed a correspondence course approved by the Department. This course is offered by the University of Florida (352) 392-1711 (Dice Link);or
  • Successfully completed at least 3 semester credit hours of life including variable annuity insurance course from an accredited college or university (an official transcript required); or

Exemptions for State Examination (Must be completed within four years of application date):

  • A letter of clearance indicating the licensee held a life including variable annuity license for at least one (1) year in his/her home state and applying for a license within 90 days of becoming a resident of the State of Florida; or
  • An original letter from the American College of Life Underwriters certifying the licensee was awarded the Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU) designation.

How do I register to take the state exam?

All Florida applicants for an insurance license should obtain a candidate guide at http://www.pearsonvue.com/. The candidate may download the candidate guide from the website. Promissor’s website includes a list of test centers that an applicant may utilize in their area for scheduling an examination time and date. It also contains pertinent information relating to examination requirements. The candidate guide is free of charge.
