Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty signed a letter addressed to Health & Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius dated October 13, 2010. The letter recommends the secretary establish a clear and timely process for consulting with individual insurance commissioners to adjust the medical MLR ratio requirements scheduled to be implemented for the individual health markets on January 1, 2011.

The concern is that these medical loss ratio requirements could destabilize the markets and lead to a potential loss of carriers in some states and effect the vital producer/client relationship.
